Employment

Earn your CDL while getting paid!

IUB Campus Bus offers paid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training opportunities to qualified applicants committed to working part-time in our department.

What is the training program?

After being accepted into our program, applicants must obtain a CLP (Commercial Learners Permit) from the BMV, as well as passing a pre-employment drug screening.

Next, trainees will begin paid training with our in-house CDL trainer on June 10, 2024.

Expected CDL acquisition is July 22-26, though it depends on each individual's learning pace.

Trainees will be ready to drive solo by the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

What is the schedule?

Our part-time operators "bid" on which shifts they want for the semester, then throughout the semester they can pick up additional shifts at their discretion.

Part-time operators have a great deal of flexibility and can shape their schedule around classes and prior commitments.

Part-time employees at IU may pick up a maximum of 29.5 hours per week.

What is the compensation?

Training pay is $13 per hour, after being released to drive solo the pay rate jumps to $20 per hour.
